Silver Wings is proud present Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger with the 2021 National Honorary President Award. Capt. Sullenberger is most famous for the Miracle on the Hudson with United Airways Flight 1549.
Capt. Sullenberger began his career in aviation as a 1973 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He served as a fighter pilot in North America and Europe until 1980. In February 1980 Capt. Sullenberger became an airline pilot with Pacific Southwest Airlines which later became US Airways. Prior to gaining worldwide recognition, he was an active safety advocate and continues to perform accident investigations for the US Air Force, and serves as an Air Line Pilots Association representative during a National Transportation Safety Board accident investigation. After logging more than 20,000 flight hours, Capt. Sullenberger became internationally renowned on January 15, 2009 when he and his crew safely guided US Airways Flight 1549 to an emergency water landing in New York City’s Hudson River. The water landing was a result of losing both engines in his Airbus A320 due to a bird strike.
Since his Miracle on the Hudson, Capt. Sullenberger has become a New York Times best-selling author and has a major motion picture about his life, titled SULLY.
Silver Wings is proud to continue our long legacy of National Honorary Presidents with Capt. Sullenberger.
